Classic Dance Club Policies - as of March 2024
1. Dance Warmup - All Classic Dances are opportunities to practice and improve dance skills. The evening begins with a warmup from 7:30 until 8:15 pm.
2. Inclusiveness - Classic Dance Club is a registered non-profit member corporation. We invite and encourage public attendance at our events. Since its inception, Classic Dance Club is open to any person regardless of race, religion, culture, ethnic background or sexual orientation. Anyone may attend our events, become a member, attend executive board meetings, or run for a board position.
3. Social Environment - Classic Dance Club is committed to creating a friendly, fun social environment where all attendees can participate and enjoy the opportunity to use their dance skills in a social setting
4. Alcohol and Cannabis - Classic Dance Club does not permit alcohol or cannabis products at its events. Occasional exceptions for the legal sale of alcohol only may be made for special events such as the Annual Gala dance. Classic Dance Club will not knowingly admit anyone who is intoxicated from alcohol or drugs (legal or illegal).
5. Dress Code - Classic Dance Club encourages semi-formal attire or attire consistent with the advertised dance theme.
6. Conduct - Attendees must conduct themselves with courtesy and respect to others at all times. Foul or abusive language and disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated. Violators may be asked to leave.
7. Smoking - All Classic Dance Club events are smoke free.
8. Admission for Dance Warmup Leaders - Experienced dancers who lead the 45-minute warmup may stay for that dance at no charge. Their partner who is not involved in leading the warmup pays regular admission to attend the dance.
9. Admission for Dance Performers - Special dance performances are usually part of the Anniversary Gala dance in May of each year. Dance performers who arrive, perform and leave, pay no admission. If they arrive and dance before and/or after their performance, they pay the reduced fee of $10 each.
10. Late Arrivals - Anyone who comes to one of our dances after 10:00 PM will be required to pay only half of the fee they would normally pay.
11. Announcements for Other Clubs - At the discretion of the Classic Dance Club executive, our announcer may include during his/her regular announcements, information about other dance opportunities that they believe might be of interest to our attendees. Such announcements would be brief including only type of event, date, time, cost and contact information. Sponsors of these events would be allowed to leave business cards or small handouts (8.5” by 11” or less) on our Events Poster table for one or two months prior to the date of their event.
12. Dance Etiquette - Dancers must respect and follow traditional social dance etiquette including:
- Follow the counter-clockwise line-of-dance around the floor for travelling dances (Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Quick Step, Country 2-Step, etc.). Less experienced dancers should avoid the outside lane of the dance floor, leaving it available for more advanced dancers.
- Avoid wild or expansive arm and leg movements that could injure other dancers on the dance floor.
- If you decline an invitation to dance, you should sit out for that dance.
- Invite others to dance so that no one is left out of the fun.
